Workshop by Milota Sidorova «Rethinking public spaces for sports: designing girls’ inclusive playgrounds»
4 March 11.00-5.00, 5 March 10.00-5.00 pm
Parks, playgrounds and other public spaces represent gender-marked places, which are dangerous for girls in the evening and at night and non-friendly during the day. The EU Gender Equality Strategy has been developed to change this situation. Within its framework only in Vienna more than 60 projects on transport, housing and urban planning have been launched. What impact does it have? As a result, urban spaces become more inclusive and comfortable for everyone. Women of different age start being more active and obtain equal ownership of public spaces, including playgrounds.
At the workshop «Rethinking public spaces for sports: designing girls’ inclusive playgrounds», organized by Zdolnaja Social and Sport Project together with Urban Platform specially for DOTYK festival we would examine the ways of changing public spaces. The workshop participants will look at the experience of other countries and will come up with gender-sensitive playgrounds planning criteria for Minsk city. The workshop will be run by Milota Sidorova, founder of «WPS Prague» (Women Public Space Prague) and moderated by Ivan Kravtsov, art-director of the Bureau 35 design studio. The workshop will take place on March 4th and 5th. Both days of the workshop should be attended.
The workshop will be held in English. Translation into Russian will be provided.
